Health Level Seven Announces First e-Learning Course Online program to cover the Version 3, Version 2 and Clinical Document Architecture standards

Ann Arbor, MI – February 4, 2008 -- Health Level Seven (HL7), a preeminent healthcare IT standards development organization with broad international representation, today announced the first HL7 e-Learning Course covering Versions 2 and 3, and Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) that will begin in March 2008. This is a limited edition introductory course targeted to those without previous experience using HL7 standards.
Originally developed by the HL7 Argentina Affiliate and offered in Spanish, this course has been translated into the English language to accommodate a larger audience. Enrollment for the web-based class will open Monday, February 4, 2008 for individuals in Australia, China, India, Sweden, and North America.
Taught by HL7 certified professionals, participants will work on real-world exercises to learn how to confront a project involving interoperability among disparate healthcare information systems.  They will also learn how to read and use the most widely used HL7 standards in the world: Versions 2 and 3, and HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA).
“HL7’s goal with this e-Learning course is to increase the understanding and use of HL7 standards globally and to reach people that won't be able to get HL7 education otherwise,” said Diego Kaminker, chair, HL7 Argentina.

HL7 designed the course as a self-paced, tutor assisted model that will introduce participants into the concepts of healthcare interoperability, controlled vocabularies, and HL7 messaging (V2.x and V3) and clinical document (CDA R2) standards, from the implementer's viewpoint.
Course participants will learn why they need HL7 standards, and when and how to use them, as well as understanding and experiencing how messages and documents are built and processed.
Space is limited to a total of 100 students from Australia, China, India, Sweden and North America. Certain preconditions apply. For more information or to apply, go to the HL7 website at www.HL7.org.
